The Vermilion Cycle grew from an interest in Mars exploration and expanded into a study of automation, ownership, and the quiet consequences of efficiency. The novels are written to reward close reading, whether encountered in sequence or in reverse, revealing different facets of the same events.
I believe science fiction is at its most effective when it resists spectacle, favors consequence over victory, and leaves space for the reader to sit with unanswered questions.
I also work with AI, and have kept the depiction of AI in the novels realistic and plausible.
